25th Meeting of the Select Committee - 23 June 2005

The National Union of Fishermen (NUF) had a meeting with the Select Committee to present the issues relating to the local fishing industry. A J M Fernando, the Chairperson of NUF and Lucas Fernando, the Secretary of NUF, represented the Union.

Both representatives spoke on the plight of the fishermen and of the impact of the tsunami on the livelihoods of fishermen and their community.

They appealed to the Select Committee to look into the matter and provide a support mechanism to assess the needs of the fishing industry.
